I'm pretty sure some have seen my last 2 builds at the thread titled: 2007 Nissan Altima and the 13Av.2 and after a little episode of me pushing this sub beyond its limit (which I didn't think was possible). I ended up getting a new 13Av.2 and after a real good tune it just wasn't enough for me anymore and besides that I got a NINe.4 Amp and I'm waiting on 2 pairs of the e9.65i's so I needed to expand the system and my previous build did not allow too much expansion so I had to build everything from the ground up.

I recently added an AP Racing Big Brake kit onto the car and I figured that the spare tire was useless since it cannot fit anymore so that went bye bye and now I have much more room for my new sub floor system.

Pretty much this build is completely done thanks to Alex Lindeman from eD who assisted me with the build from day 1. It is a 2.2 cu ft Ported enclosure tuned in at 38 Hz with dual square "Smokestack" ports which also doubles as an amp rack and under the lower sub amp there is a separate battery compartment which also houses all the excess wires for a neat appearance. There will also be ample storage built into the sides which will create a nice flush floor since the entire floor is raised approximately 5 inches. Later on I will be incorporating a different mounting style for the amp rack in a stackable design since I will be adding 1 more amp later which will probably be a 2 or 4 channel NINe series amp.

Anyways, I will let the pictures do the talking...theres not many as I really wanted to get this all done since it was almost 60 hours of planning and development into this thing and about 10 layers of fiberglass matt and cloth. And here they are:

First, I started by cutting a base and molding a fiberglass tub in the shape of the wheel well.

Base with the framework and the internal portion of the ports

Base with the external ports in their locations

View of the front

And with the top completely cutout

Port protrusion and closeup detailing length

Now the internal volume of just the fiberglass tub alone was 2.41 cu ft and it was all raised 3 1/2 inches for the internal ports. The volume was measured again and chimed in close to 3.1 cu ft which was too large so I added a divider to bring it down to 2.4 cu ft before displacement of the 13Av.2 which btw displaces almost .2 cu ft and brought it all down to 2.2 cu ft. I fiberglassed it all in and screwed it down tight. 3 more layers were added to the entire tub and lemme tell you its pretty strong as I was jumping on top of it and I'm no light man at 240 lbs. Conveniently there was just enough space for me to wedge my factory battery that I've been using to supplement my system in there and that space doubles as excess wire storage.

The rest are completed pics of the system at different angles:
Above

Front

Right quarter

Left quarter

Slightly lower angle

Straight with the sides finished

Right side finisher

Left side finisher

I added rails for the amp rack so I can slide it back and forth as needed for access to the NINe.1 and/or the battery and I'm getting a grille made for the speaker out of billet which will set it all off nicely and there will be more to come on that later...its another secret of mine.

Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

How do you access the battery? Is there an opening underneath the NINe.1? Otherwise, awsome job. I dig the stacks.

Yes it is...if you look at the third carpeted picture you can see the line of the removable panel that the NINe.1 is attached to. Thanks for the comments and I'm going to bed lol.

Yup! I see it now! Awesome job. Is it all deconstructible? Or is the enclosure all one piece? Sorry for all the questions, just curious if you slipped that all in through the opening in your trunk.

Thats what I'm planning to do in the hatch of my Focus when it gets warm enough to do fiberglass work (and I get the funding).

Care to share any tips you learned from building it?

It is slightly deconstructable because I have air hoses and electrical wiring running underneath it to get to my air suspension valves which is behind the rear bumper. First the upper amp rack can slide out, then the external ports can slide out and finally the whole enclosure can be lifted out...to make it easier, I can remove the 13Av.2 beforehand so I can remove the enclosure by myself otherwise I will need 2 people to help lift the entire thing out.

Not to be the bad guy here but read the OP...it has been there the entire time in the third paragraph...I made sure to highlight it for the future because it can be hard to see if your "skimming"

The only tips I can give you with fiberglass is not that much because I am limited in my fiberglass work being done only 4 enclosures:
#1 tip - only use enough resin that you need...the strength comes from how good the resin soaks the fiberglass not how much resin is on top (that actually weakens it)...best thing to do is get disposable 2" brushes (and I mean a lot of them) and cut the bristles down about 1/2" so you can use the brush as a dabber...do not ever use brush strokes as it will pick up the fiberglass, just dab till the glass soaks with resin and move on.
#2 - only work with small amounts of resin...never mix more than 5 oz at a time unless you wanna waste a ton of resin...I use 3-4 and it works perfect for me. Get the small disposable paper cups at the grocery store and not plastic ones otherwise the resin will melt the plastic.
#3 - cut the fiberglass up in small sections...its just easier to work with.
#4 - research fiberglass building on google and learn as much as you can also have a lot of patience...fiberglass work cannot be done in a weekend easily, much less a day so plan it out.

I must say and its not even fully tuned right now...it pounds really really hard. My car never really rattled before but now OMG :wow:
Its soo bad, it moves my rearview mirror out of adjustment after playing Ludacris Blueberry Yum Yum. The other day it also felt like there was someone in the back seat tickling the back of my ears too...its crazy. BTW, I have not tried putting the rear seats down...I'm pretty sure it would damage some things in the cabin if I played that song lol. I'm actually gonna tune it in a little bit. Its nice to have a Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.2 to do all that haha.

I'm one Happy Camper now!

Acetone works great for cleaning resin off of the brushes. Use a glass jar with a mouth wide enough to fit the brush to hold the acetone. I'm still using the same brush that I started my project with a few months ago.

If you use a bit less hardener in the mix, the resin will take a bit longer to cure, giving you a longer work time. Good point though.

I use plastic ice-cream containers - they're wide enough to fit the brush, so I can use every bit of resin that I mix, and the plastic is not affected by the resin. Then again, I don't mix the resin with too much hardener either, so it never gets hot enough to melt the plastic...

Yup. You may want to consider using fiberglass cloth instead of mat for the curved areas too - you'll end up with less air pockets. Also, paint on a layer of resin first, wait until it starts to harden (it gets sticky), then use that as "glue" to hold the first layer of cloth or mat in place. That makes it a bit easier to apply fiberglass to vertical areas.

I went the "spare tire well" way too, except my driver is one of the 13Kv.2-D4s in a ~3.2 cu.ft. box tuned to around 22 Hz (a temporary arrangement - it's going to be replaced by two 12" drivers in a sealed alignment - I still need to pick the drivers...).

Brian Thanks for the good points as I am not that experienced myself...those were just my observations that have worked so far.

No probs. BTW - this is only my second attempt at a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure. I made a lot of notes after my first attempt (which looked like crap but worked), but I still ended up doing a bit of fsckery with this one . My next attempt will be even better...

Nice work on the vents btw. I might have opted instead run them parallel to the box instead of perpendicular to it, and run them right to the rear of the car to get a lower Fb and some "corner-loading", but if it works well...

what size are your smoke stacks? I see they're 10.5" tall, but what about ID.

They also have length added on the inside of the box. I think 20-23 inches total.
