The 13Av.2 is an interesting creature of a subwoofer, I even remember the release thread having photoshops of it as a huge monster. Well every month or so we always throw around the idea of what can we do with it in HT besides the P7-650's.

Well that idea is starting to come more towards being. How would you guys like to see dual 13Av.2's sealed powered by an LT/1300? Now wait... Did I mention this will be on an LT/1300 that is wide open with no Subsonic filter? Yup. And they make a whole lot of power down low, I think it was like 1230 watts at 10 Hz still but Alex will have to jump in here with that exact number.

How big is this thing going to be you ask? 16" w x 16" deep x 38" Tall.

HOLY COW!!!!

How much is this beast going to cost?

Well actually we are looking at doing this more as a kit for the DIY guys. So it'll be purchased as a kit with the enclosure being flat shipped, we are working on the final pricing as the first one gets built. But it will be in the tradition of eD and be offer a great value.

Teaser Sketchup:

The first prototype will be hopefully built sometime this week. If the parts get cut I'm staying after and building it myself just because I want to hear it decimate the listening room.

That is correct Brett.

It was over 1200 watts at 12hz.

A FR graph would be nice to see/compare vs your ported designs, if possible

How about an optional bolt-on external slot port; maybe stackable port modules. A folded slot port that you just bolt on to the top. All you have to do is have an opening on one end (top rear that can remain plugged if you want to keep it sealed), and bolt on a 16" x 16" x ??" box on top that is your port. Make it as an external port so you don't change any of the internal box dimensions. Then you can make adjustments and tune it how you like. Like it sealed?... leave the hole plugged and keep it sealed. Or tune it to 20hz by bolting on a 20hz port. Maybe a lower tuning is better for your room...? Bolt on a longer/taller port and take it down to say 15hz (or what ever it would calc. to)

Its going to be tough to compete in the DIY world...most people do not use 12"'s any more...and they want to use pro-amps.

That being said...i have a 15" and a proamp and i am not loving it, and i want to go back to 2 12's and a plate amp...so i will wait on the price too....i think it needs to be under $700 to sell....and i just don't know if you can do that.....

Plus don't forget you will need to include the eQ.2 in the package

I picture this which is 6 GRAND:

So the Prototype is together.

Ummm... Wow... 16" cube x 38" tall and a beast on the low end. We'll take some measurements when we can, hopefully this week. Impact is pretty crazy. I'm headed to the listening to shake the building some more.

I think it's fair to say that it's pretty brutal.

I'd say that is a fair statement. Considering the foot print, output, and the fact that both of us left feeling a bit nauseous last night from all of the monster low end bass. Super thumbs up!

Initial thoughts:
WOW!!! That much output out of that little cabinet. Musically it is beautiful and clean, everything from double bass kicks to overbearing amounts of bass from some Hip Hop CD's.

Movie usage it runs the gauntlet, V for Vendetta, Transformers, etc. It digs deep and just hammers. I'll follow up with more after we get a little more time to play with it after work this week. Overall, I really enjoy this thing.

What sub orientation did you guys notice gave the most output with the sealed box? Can you compare the output to your existing in-production sub systems?

Did some measuring with it yesterday.

The most obvious comparison is to the A7s-450. If you look at the computer simulation the A7s-450 should be down by about 2dB and the extension of the dual 13A cabinet should win out a little.

In theory it functions like a pair of A7s-450's with a lot smaller footprint. Personally however I believe in room once you couple a pair of cones that big the A7s-450's will still have more peak output.

One to one however. With a smaller footprint. It's pretty hard to argue with the strength of this thing especially considering it's by far the smallest cabinet we make in this price range.

The very cool news here is.

Compared to the A7s-450 it has more output.
Compared to the A7s-450 it walks all over it below 20hz especially, even more so at 10hz.

The idea that it should win out in some ways turned out to be a clearly does win out confirmation.

This thing had about 2.5dB more peak output in room than the A7s-450
This thing had about 5dB more output at 10Hz in room than the A7s-450
This thing had about 3dB more output at 20Hz in room than the A7s-450

I think it's really worth noting. The A7s-450 is no slouch. These numbers aren't comparing it to a junk subwoofer. It's comparing it to a subwoofer that has a really strong place in our line and a substantial performer.

As a finished system this thing is not going to be cheap but my god does it get down.

DIY Kit Currently Available:

http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=849

Obviously finished product will move up in price quite a bit. Labor for assembly, finish work, paint, assembly, final QC and shipping will move the cost up considerably. But for those that would like us to do that we are working on those numbers as well.
