I have my HT setup in a fairly small but open room. The room itself is 12 X 15 and to the rear there's a 9 foot opening into a room the same size. My front LCR speakers are Klipscsh KG4's which go down to 40Hz. I don't have an obvious place for a subwoofer. The front corners are where the opening to the kitchen on one side and the opening to the stairs on the opposite side. So that wall is ~10 feet and the Klipsch span that with my 84" 16:9 screen above covering a partial opening where the stairs go up. My rear corners will have my rear speakers, on stands. The couch is in the middle so along the side wall is walking area. So it could be a coffee table sub, under the floor vented is an option, or I'm thinking a shallow under the couch sub. I'm intrigued byt the eD shallow 10" sub and was wondering how low can it go? I think I can build a box with those, up to 4 if there's a sale. I'd really like for it to go down below 20Hz since my system is 90% for movie watching. Possible? I wouldn't need buttkickers if I had 4 of those firing up into the couch.
