I moved my box and laid down the nine.1 amps and voltage is dropping to lower levels.

Before I had my amp like this:
(note in picture is nine.2x but now is a nine.1)
Amps are attached to a piece of MDF.

Subs were firing this way:
(note: those are 13kv's, i have 13ov's now)

I drive about 1.5 hours everyday and listen to music full tilt. My stinger volt meter had always stayed above 13.8V (for the most part, the lowest that I've seen it drop was about 13V)

Ok, on with the changes.

Today I decided to lay down that mdf amp rack and I flipped over the box to have it fire into the cabin. I took one of my chairs down so that the bass can flow in. I can't fold both chairs down because one was stuck.

There was a noticable 0.5 - 1V drop difference when I watched my stinger volt meter.

Any idea what the cause of this could be? Is it bad to have the subs face the laid down amps?
Is it because I have only 1 chair folded down and not the other?
Are eD amps better in the other position?

The lowest I saw my voltage dropping down to was 12V.

Maybe the ground came loose and you're not getting good contact?

I have seen boxes moved around in a trunk and get noticeibly louder. Has that happen with your setup change.

might be wrong but u pry had impedance rise like a mother ****er with everything up stuffed in the trunk and now that you have the air escaping it might have stopped that and your impedance is dropping and so are your volts just my thought but a DMM on it and find out

That's what other people on SMD forums think is going on.

When my box was originally firing towards the rear, I'd get better SQ lows with the box as close as possible to the cabin. When I moved it 1 foot towards the rear (still firing towards the rear), I'd lose some of that low and feel more of the bass hitting against my chair.

As for firing the subs into the cabin, I've noticed that I'm peaking in different frequencies now. I've also noticed that I've loss certain bass kicks.

I haven't had time to mess around with it, but I'm going to try and keep the box firing into the cabin and move the box as far back as I can to the rear and see if it does anything.

What kinda sucks about all of this is I'm only able to get 1 chair to fold down and not both of them, and of course it sucks that my voltages are crapping up.

you also want to remember that the nine.1 pulls a higher amperage than the nine.2x does (think it's 120 amp vs. 80 amps). With the increase in amps being pulled to the amp, you have less power to run the remaining car components. you are probably reaching your alternators limit of output (unless you upgraded to an HO alt of course) causing voltage drop like you are seeing.... could also be due to the imp rise; however, just the simple fact you are pulling more power for your amp could easily cause this situation as well... just my $0.02

If I had to guess, it is something with a ground wire changing, or as mentioned, you had impedance rise before that is gone, and now the amplifier sees a lower resistance, and is asking for more juice.

I wasn't comparing between nine.2x and nine.1. It was just in the picture it says nine.2x cause it was old photo. The ground seems fine so my only guess is imp rise when I moved the box like that.

After listening to my system for a few days, I have noticed an increase in bass. I can feel the bass more (which was what I wanted). However, I've loss some SQ and certain bass notes. Moving the box like this is like getting a new system which is great! I'm just disapointed that my voltages no longer stay above 13.0V at all times. I might move it back to its original state if I see it go down to 12.2V or something the songs I normally listen to.

Should I re-tune my system with the oscope Alex? If I did it right he first time, I shouldn't need to do it again right?

Oh and the ground wire has been in the same place it's always been.

It might be worth re-adjusting everything once again. Moving the box can change impedance, and that will effect the amplifier.

I moved my box again and have it fireing as close as I can to the rear end of my trunk. With the seat down and amp rack laying flat to let the bass into the cabin, it sounds like I've got a new system again =]

I can feel more 'kick' bass now (I've loss that certain low that I had when it was firing into the cabin though) It's wonderful how much your system can change by moving the box to various places.
The other downfull with this box placement is that my rear-view and side mirrors shake 4x harder now, making it hard to use those mirrors when changing lanes. The trunk bumper rattles really loud now too. Oh well. Voltages are staying above 13.5V @full tilt 50 minute drives
