just got done wtih a Volvo 850R. What i had planned as a relatively relaxing week installing on a car i know inside and out (owned one for three years and did a ton of installs on the same cars), turned out to be...well, a bit more involved

read on and you will see what i mean lol.
the goals:
1. superb SQ
2. stealthy trunk
3. All optical/simblink link up
the customer supplied EVERYTHING he had from his previous install whcih includes:
Alpine IVA-W200
Zapco DAII DA converter
Zapco SP4-SL xover/eq/system controller
two ZAPCO 350 amps
one zapco 750 amp
one zapco iforce 12 sub
DLS UR6 comp
zapco iforce 5.25 comps
everyhting was i would say 2-3 years old...the amps came in three different mdoel years and colors hehe
anyway...the goal is that the entire signal chain from HU to amp would be all optical and simblink.
so...then the headaches came:
1. the SP4 doesnt have a simblink input

so an rca cable had to be run between the DAII and the SP4)
2. and this is the killer, beucase we are going from the optical output of hte alpine into the DAII, the alpine then will have NO VOLUME CONTROL, meaning the SP4 will bet he main system control, meaning in turn that it has to be mounted somewhere with in reach...well, the W200 took up the double din slot, and there was no other place to mount one cleanly...i wasnt about to strap it under the dash lol
3. The alpine's optical output doesnt output when playing radio, so another rca had to be run to the DAII's other input...
aiyaya lol mainly it was number 2 that killed me lol...took a whole day to figure out and perform a solution lol
anyway lets gets started...
here you seet he headunit, speakres, andt he solution i came up with for hte SP4 mounting, beucase the customer said the glove box was falling apart and rattling badly, i decided to mount he SP4 there, i took a fiberglass duplicate of the glove box front, caprted, and mounted the SP4 there...easy to reach and relatively clean...
here is another shot of the SP4 mounting
the UR6s are in custom fiberglass kicks :
the zapco iforce comps are mounted in the stock location in the rear door, wtiht the tweeter flushed into the lower panel:
moving to the trunk, here is the fully hidden view:
and here is what it loosk like with all the covers removed, wished the amps matched, but oh well, again, nothing fancy just a clearn stealth install
now some assorted behind the scene pics of hte wiring, the dmapening and the removal of rear deck speakers:
the system is set up so that one 350 powers the sub, the other the rear speakres, and the massive output of the 750 is sent to the front UR6s.
i have to admit, in the end, it was wroth the trouble, the simblink set up, alongw tih the massive headroom of the 750 amp, makes this one of the most dynamic and best sounding installs i ahve ever done...infact, i used it over the wekeend to demo it to new potential clients instead of using my own car
