i'm super pumped to see this one. I've got tickets to go see it tomorrow at the IMAX theater. just wondering if anyone else has seen it yet? i think the first showings were about 20 hours ago. basically, i'm looking for a thumbs up/down from a reliable source.

haven't watched it yet, but read a lot of the reviews, which were mixed. My takeaway from the reviews was that the best advice for watching the movie is to not expect it to be just like the book. Just watch and enjoy the movie for what it is. the "greatness" of the book, from what I've read, sets the expectation level so ridiculously high that a lot of fanboys might be disappointed in the movie.

anyway, i give it a big thumbs up. i won't call it the best Hero movie, or the best action movie, or the greatest story ever told, but it was very very awesome.
a few things that some (a limited, picky few) will dislike are the length of the movie, Rhorshak's voice, and probably the gaps in action. Yes, it's almost 3 hours long. Yes, there is a character with that scratchy, rough voice like Christian Bale when he's in the Batman get-up. Yes, there is actually an intense storyline that takes a lot of time to develop and often keeps the action at long intervals.
Aside from those things, it's really good, especially if you like the Zack Snyder style. He has improved a bit from 300. That's all you get from me.

relatively i diskliked the movie. There wasn't enough action even if you butted it all together. how did these "heros" get power beyond that of regular people, too much dong. not enough tits. maybe i should've read the book?

IMAX was cool. as far as i know, the entire movie was done in the format, but i wouldnt be surprised if there were only a few parts of it.
yeah, like i said, there wasnt a whole lot of action. i do think that the advertising might have mislead people to think that it's an action movie when it's really more of a suspense/thriller kinda story.
and yes, there was a lot of blue wiener. fortunately, it was easy to avoid looking at, even though it was approximately four feet in size most of the time because the IMAX screen was over 50 feet tall.

i liked it,they didnt have actual powers, only one with actuall powers was DR.MANHATAN ...who could manipulate things at a molecular levels
i watched it a few times on dvd ...it was long but i really got into it ,i kinda liked rorshaks character ,voice was cool i thought
reason i liked it was it was like in every day style somthing spectacular isnt going to happen EVERY DAY ,it isnt done like they film "cops" and just throw all the GOOD day/nights/shifts back to back ,cause not every film crew gets action som days are slow
but anyway ,i couldnt imagine being like dr.manhatan ...just to see the world that way would kinda bum me out
Beign a fan of the book my expectations for the movie were pretty high.
I did not like the Theatrical Cut I saw in theaters last year that much, but I fell all over the Director's Cut once I watched it on home video. Even though it's 30 mins longer and gets the movie in the 3 hour territory, it actually makes it feel shorter because of how better it deals with the character arcs.
As a movie, it grows on you with repeated viewings. However, it'd be a mistake to try to experience it as you'd experience the book, because it is impossible. The success of the graphic novel was that it undestood itself as a medium, and every element in that universe was tailor made to work within the frame of what a comic-book experience could be.
So watch the movie as a standalone piece, the Director's Cut if possible, and if possible, I recommend watching 'Under the Hood' (the Hollis Mason mockumentary available on the Tales of the Black Freigher disc) as a prologue to watching the film. And if you feel like it, the TotBF after that. During this 4 hour experience, you'll slowly begin to realize what an spectacular and overwhelming work Zach Snyder did to bring this universe to life.
Then you'll want to watch the movie again.

That's pretty much every translation of printed media to film. None of them get it right because of time/money/conceptual constrictions. Take it for what it is, or don't watch it.
